Varga Viktoria is now the designer and brand owner of VIKTORIAVARGA Budapest. She creates wearable, yet eye-catching creations in amazingly beautiful colors. 2019 spring-summer collection has now debuted, soon the wedding capsule collection will also be available for public and she has plenty of future plans too.

Have you always desired to be a fashion designer or have you decided later on the profession?

I started my carrier as a tennis player then learned finance and accounting at the University of Technology and Economics, while I was a tennis coach. After that, I worked for years in different financial positions, but I lacked creativity from my life. I spent a short time in Toronto, Canada where I had the opportunity to be closer to local artists, culture and design. The atmosphere of the artists and fashion designers inspired me very much there. I soon realized that I had to live a different kind of life and would like to take actions towards my childhood dream.

Where did you get the basics of fashion design?
I learned to draw and sew, I made the clothes to myself, and finally in 2014 I applied for fashion design at KREA Contemporary Art School with the strong intention of getting to know the tricks of the profession more seriously.

When did you formulate your own brand?
My own brand was basically my childhood dream. Around the middle of my designstudies I realized that I want to come it into life. By that time, my own style that I would like to represent was crystallizes so strongly. I would like to show it to the world, to give it to women, to get them clothed and by wearing my clothes to have their healthy self-confidence strengthen.

Who is the target audience for the VIKTORIAVARGA brand?
The brand is designed for intelligent, sophisticated, ageless women who prefer wearable yet unique, eye-catching silhouettes. In addition, besides wearing clothes from noble material, their functionality is also important so that they can work well even all day long.

How do design processes take place?
I start with inspiration from which plans are made. Then we experiment with materials and tailor dolls. I test each piece by myself at first, seeing how I like it, how it fits. If the look wins my liking and I feel really special, I’ll just take it to my collection.

What colors do you prefer?
I like bold colors, I believe women should dress in a much more colorful way, which can affect their state of soul. I work with bright colors. Red is my favorite, so it’s definitely a recurring item in all my collections. I work mainly with warm colors. I like orange, magenta, blue, powder and yellow. I use many of them, I feel I find the harmony between them.

Last year you made a collection with Boglárka Bódis, the designer of Elysian. How do you feel during the collaboration and are you planning to work together?
As girlfriends, every minute of the work was full with enjoy. In addition to the basic idea of dragonfly brooch, we designed a smaller capsule collection together. There is still talk today about the idea behind the inspiration, that women stand out for themselves, for their rights and for their dreams. Who knows? Maybe another inspirational thought will come.

When is your latest collection expected?
2019 spring-summer collection is now debut, and my wedding capsule collection will soon be available to public. We are currently designing pieces for 2019 autumn-winter collection. (2019 spring-summer collection can be found here: http://bit.ly/vvss19 )

What are your long-term plans with the brand?
I would like to introduce the brand in Hungary as widely as possible, and I would be glad if VIKTORIAVARGA brand’s pieces were recognized easily. I have already played with the idea of my own store or with potential foreign expansion as well.
